Meticulous study on KL-Singapore high-speed train before year-end

KUALA LUMPUR Oct 25 – A meticulous study on the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed train will be undertaken before the project is recommended to the government for approval, Minister in the Prime Minister”s Department, Datuk Seri Idris Jala, said today.

"By end of this year, a study will be completed on the pros and cons of doing it,” Idris said when asked if the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed train was being considered as one of the high impact projects.

This, he said, will be followed by a detailed study in January next year.

Idris was met by reporters after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the Economic Transformation Programme Roadmap here.

"Once the conceptual detail study are being completed, it will then brought to the Economic Council and Cabinet for full deliberation,” Idris said.

He said after the Malaysian government had agreed to do it, “then we will approach the Singapore government”. The project was first mooted by the YTL Group but it was not given the green by the government then due to the high cost involved. However, it was cited as a proposed high impact project in the ETP.
